Opportunities at Wuhan University, China
Join a historic and unique university in China. Wuhan University (WHU) is a comprehensive and key national university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education. It is one of the “211 Project” and “985 Project” universities and the first batch of “double first-class”construction universities with full support in the construction and development from the central and local government of China. In 2000, an amalgamation of the former Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping, and Hubei Medical University was announced, which ushered in a new era in its 100-odd years of development.
The School of Urban Design of Wuhan University aims to create first-class architecture, planning and design disciplines with Chinese characteristics. Relying on the strong academic atmosphere and humanistic heritage of Wuhan University, it has formed the characteristics of digital, humane and international school management, and cultivated a large number of high-level talents for the national planning, architecture and design industries. The school currently has four teaching and scientific research units: the Department of Urban Planning, the Department of Architecture, the Department of Design, and the Department of Graphics and Digital Technology. This program is the only architectural undergraduate Sino-foreign program in China, and also the only such kind of program in Wuhan University at present. The program adopts a "4+1" model, which means that the involved students study at Wuhan University for the first four years and at the University of Dundee for the final year. 80% of the graduates of this program are admitted to high-level universities overseas for further study, including Yale University, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, University of California Los Angeles, University of Southern California and so on. In the same time, some other students went to world-famous Chinese universities for postgraduate studies, such as Tongji University/Southeast University/South China University of Technology.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and curriculum development for Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Program of architecture, to play a lead role in Architecture Design Studio for at least one grade and conduct ongoing teaching research and publications in the areas of architectural/urban design, architectural practice, digital architecture/design, and architectural technologies.
